Vikings season 5 video: Rollo makes his presence known!
There is another important question that comes along with all of this: What in the world does Rollo actually want? What is the desired endgame here by helping Ivar over Lagertha? Throughout the first episode back, we will have some answers on that. He’s a man who is often out for his own self-interest and there is little reason to think that his return to Kattegat will be about anything other than a self serving reason.
One thing the video below makes very clear is that Rollo has zero issue with making a grand entrance. You can see him here arrive at Kattegat sporting some of his finest wear while strolling in surrounded by many an onlooker. Eventually, he makes his way to Ivar and proclaims his appreciation for the city — and his desire to work with Ivar and Kattegat. He recognizes the city’s importance for trade; he may be in France the bulk of the time, but he definitely understands the need to work with other people to ensure France gets what it needs.
Knowing Rollo’s past and that he never does someone a favor without wanting something more it raises some questions for Ivar – mainly why is he there? While it’s always lovely to have an appearance from a character this dynamic and formidable, Ivar is well aware of the fact that Rollo didn’t need to arrive in-person just to trade. Rollo’s counter is just that he missed the city — which is funny, and shows his expert proficiency in deflecting serious situations with a healthy dose of humor. We doubt this is going to work on Ivar, but kudos at least to him for trying.
Over the course of the first episode back Rollo’s true motives are going to become clear, and we’re certainly looking forward to seeing if he has a chance to interact with many a familiar face with this series (anyone else out there dying for a Rollo/Lagertha reunion as much as we are?). We’ve waited a long time for this series to come back — beyond that, we’ve waited forever to see Standen as a major part of the show! (He’s been busy for a good while working on the NBC version of Taken.) No matter how things shake out, you have to think that they will be interesting and make an indelible mark beyond just Kattegat on the series moving forward.
Remember, November 28 is the return date. Be there, and be prepared for some pretty epic stuff to go down.
