Vikings season 5 video: Katheryn Winnick discusses Lagertha’s journey

Vikings season 6 renewal

Vikings season 5 is returning on History a little bit later this month, and at the center of the latest teaser is someone in Lagertha worthy of excitement. She has had an incredible journey over the years, but it’s also clear that this journey is far from over.

So where do things go from here for the character, in the wake of losing so much she holds dear? In the new video below, Katheryn Winnick (who is outstanding in this role) describes everything that this character has gone through and how she has struggled and dealt with loss. She finds herself at a crossroads, and she uses that opportunity to head towards Wessex. It seems as though she has a relationship blossoming with Heahmund, but at the moment there is no guarantee of anything there. As Winnick makes it clear, the only person who Lagertha can really trust is herself. Even if someone approaches her with kindness, how does she know if that is real? How can she hold that trust close and try to move forward? For someone in her shoes, we are talking about an almost-impossible feat here.

At the end of the video, there is one more thing that Winnick notes that should get everyone rocking back and forth with excitement: Lagertha is not done with Kattegat just yet. There will be a return for her at some point moving forward, and with that, we’re certainly expecting one thing more than anything else: Fireworks.

Rest assured, we’re sure that the remaining season 5 episodes for Winnick are going to be outstanding. Beyond even that, there’s something else worthy of excitement in season 6 — Katheryn directed an episode! That filmed earlier this year, and we’re (unfortunately) still waiting to see precisely when season 6 is going to premiere. We’ve got ten more episodes to get through first.
