Criminal Minds season 14 episode 7 preview: Is this a Paget Brewster spotlight?

Emily Prentiss

As we’ve noted MANY different times this fall, Criminal Minds season 14 is doing a super-smart thing: Giving each cast member moments to shine. Tonight, you are seeing it with Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez, and to date, there have been powerful installments for Kirsten Vangsness, AJ Cook, Daniel Henney, and others.

Moving forward now into season 14 episode 7 next week, it it possible that this could be your big Paget Brewster spotlight? We’re not down for making false promises by any means, but just on the basis of early, superficial information via CBS, it’s easy to bank on it as a possibility. It’s a chance to simultaneously receive one of the most dangerous cases of the season and then also one of the most personal showcases for Prentiss yet. Sometimes, you meet someone in the craziest of situations … right? Well, signs suggest that Prentiss may find a rather-great rapport with Andrew Mendoza, a man she just so happens to work with in order to stop some UnSubs committing some very unspeakable (and meticulous) acts.

Below, CarterMatt offers the Criminal Minds season 14 episode 7 synopsis below:

“Twenty Seven” – It’s literally a race against the clock for the BAU to capture the vigilantes behind a series of attacks taking place every 27 minutes in the nation’s capital. Prentiss and Unit Chief Andrew Mendoza lead the effort to identify the Unsubs and what’s motivating them, on CRIMINAL MINDS, Wednesday, Nov. 14 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Just on the surface alone, it’s pretty clear why this episode would be an opportunity for Brewster to shine. This is a story that’s about boots on the ground and having to act quickly, but it’s also about leadership and finding ways for different people in power to get along. Prentiss is the right person to tackle all of this when you consider her experience both at the BAU and beyond. People listen to her and believe in her.

Also, it feels like there’s the potential for something a little fun at least after the fact here if she and Mendoza get along. There’s probably not much of a getting-to-know-you phase during the mission instead, but we love it when these characters get something a little lighter and personal in the midst of keeping themselves from dying almost every week. Doesn’t that aid to the overall balance of the show, at least on some sort of level?
