We’re sure that just the mere saying of Naomi’s name sends groans throughout the Chicago Fire landscape and it’s really not her fault. She seems like a perfectly nice, capable person who is ambitious and just so happens to have a thing for Matthew Casey. There are probably millions of viewers out there who feel kind of the same way! The big problem here is timing. Her timing is awful. It’s not too long after Dawson’s departure and Matt’s marriage isn’t 100% over yet and Casey’s definitely in the “It’s Complicated” Facebook status phase right now. If Naomi was on the show a year from now, maybe it’d be a little bit easier to get behind the idea. Right now, it’s tough — regardless of if this relationship turns romantic or not, she’s going to play a big role in next week’s episode given that she and Casey are working together again.

As for what their project is, we don’t think the Chicago Fire season 7 episode 8 synopsis below gives away all that much — yet, at the same time it does at least offer up some scoop on a few stories in general:

11/14/2018 (09:00PM – 10:00PM) (Wednesday) : Firehouse 51 is called in to battle a dangerous structure fire that places everyone in peril. Severide makes a big personal realization. Casey lends another helping hand to Naomi, the investigative reporter. TV-14 L, V

So basically, you have two personal storylines coupled with a dangerous structure fire that could kill everyone. Just another day at the office, right? The Kelly Severide part of this is critical mostly because he’s still working through some serious stuff — losing your father will do that to you, and he’s probably going to spending the rest of the fall figuring out how to move forward. When you lose someone, your perspective changes and the thoughts you once had secure in your head are now totally flipped. Up is down, left is right, and maybe you want different things. Maybe we’re writing this all out in hopes that Severide actually proposes to Stella, although there’s no actual evidence of this happening. It’s really more of something that we’re just throwing out into the universe in hopes that it could come to fruition.

There are at least a handful of stories still left to tell before the fall mid-season finale is upon us, so buckle up, grab the tissues, and prepare for the ride.

The promo tonight

In this one, it’s clear that Severide may be making a mistake that dooms him for sometime to come in the aforementioned structure fire. It may not kill him, but it could cause him to think if he’s ready for the job.
