A Luther spin-off starring Ruth Wilson could happen in the future
While nothing is confirmed at the moment, Ruth Wilson recently told The Sun that there have been some conversations about the subject; yet, at the same time there is still nothing close to confirmed and the story would have to be right:
“We’ve talked about it actually. Yes, definitely, if the script is right and the storyline is right.
“It’s funny. People like watching her because she comes in and out. If you watched a whole episode of her, would it be the same? I don’t know … I’m interested — if the script is right, yes. You’d have to make the show quite different in style though, and get inside her head.”
What we do know is that Wilson could actually be available now, given that she did just recently wrap up filming the fourth season of The Affair over on Showtime (her final one with the season). It’s still not 100% clear just how in the world the story of Alice Morgan, a known killer, would be fitting of a solo show … but hey, they did it for Dexter Morgan. Conspiracy theory: Maybe they’re secretly related? Maybe they have the same Dark Passenger? Well, we’re probably going down this road a little bit too much, but the idea of a female killer leading her own show is a delicious idea and we are already completely invested in Alice – we never thought she was really dead on Luther anyway. We’ve learned over the years of covering so many television shows that if we don’t see the body go in the ground then they are probably not dead… and even sometimes when they go into the ground they still manage to be alive!
If nothing else, know that there are some more episodes of Luther coming up at some point in the near future, and we are more than excited to see Idris Elba back in the title role. This series has become one of the most fascinating crime dramas out there, and the only negative thing that we have to say about it at the moment is that it isn’t on anywhere near enough. (Hopefully, there are going to be some episodes coming up at some point at the end of year.)
Given that an Alice Morgan spin-off hasn’t even been ordered at the moment, we have a feeling that it may take several years before we get it. That being said we haven’t been this excited for a spin off idea in years… maybe even ever.
