Ratings: Legacies episode 2 rises; The Good Place season 3 hits low

There aren’t too many significant ratings headlines that are worth some discussion today, but there are definitely a couple of things we feel to be worth a look.

Let’s kick things off here with the first numbers for Legacies episode 2, which managed to improve (at least in the preliminaries) up to a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. If this number holds, it’s possible that this series could end up sticking around for a while. The CW replayed the series during the week in hopes of finding it some more viewers, and we think that it follows an established road map for many of its other great series over the years — a teen drama set around high school with some sort of mystical element. This time around, it’s everything from vampires to witches to werewolves. Heck, this past episode even had a dragon!

On the flip side of things, we’re a little bit bummed that viewers are not catching The Good Place live. This past episode generated a 0.7 rating, which is the lowest that we’ve seen for it so far in the demo. (It did actually improve in total viewers.) While possibly the best comedy on TV, it’s also one that benefits heavily from binge-watching and seeing the entire story play out at once. We’re never one to advocate for this model (we like watching shows week-to-week), but this is probably a series that would probably work better on a streaming platform than NBC. We do think that quality will merit a season 4 renewal here, but we certainly do wish that the ratings were a little bit better than they are at the moment.
