‘Shiptober 2018: Outlander (Jamie & Claire) vs. Supergirl (Kara & Lena)
Mrs. Carter: We’re now in the thick of October, and that means that another year of ‘Shiptober is upon us!
It’s a chance to celebrate some of the greatest ‘ships that the TV has to offer, and we’ve got a fun tournament this year to go along with it. Over the course of this month, we’ll be running some ‘Shiptober polls while also discussing what makes some of these couples so great and also sharing some teases / expectations for upcoming episodes! This is a chance to celebrate and discuss great ‘ships while gauging their popularity among readers at the same time. Only one ‘ship will be crowned the victor at the very end!
Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! Only one ‘ship of the two competing here are going to make it to the grand finale. Voting for this round closes on Monday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time, and the final round officially begins the following day.
Today, the final four officially begins with Jamie & Claire of Outlander facing off against Kara & Lena of Supergirl. It’s fair to imagine, at least based on voting history so far, that this showdown is going to be a rather-intense one.
Jamie & Claire, Outlander (#1 seed) – Entering the tournament, it was fair to think that Jamie & Claire were going to perform well. They are one of the most-popular couples on TV and Outlander is well-known for having a dedicated following. Also, the timing of the tournament certainly works in their favor, given that season 4 is starting up in just a matter of days on November 4. That’s where you will have a chance to see Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe’s characters effectively kick off the next phase of their lives, one where they will work really hard in order to establish a new home for themselves and kick off the next phase of their lives. They will still face a great deal of danger — that’s just what happens on Outlander — but along the way, they’re going to have a few chances to breathe a little bit easier and enjoy one another’s company.
Kara & Lena, Supergirl (#3 seed) – To date, Supercorp has been a dominating force in ‘Shiptober, receiving more total votes than any other ‘ship; yet, this is not a cumulative competition, and with that the slate is wiped clean for this battle. It’s going to be a tough one, but Supercorp fans have absolutely shown their resiliency before. Much like Jamie & Claire, timing does suit this show and these characters well — there was a pretty strong Kara / Lena storyline on this past episode where Kara learned more about what Lena has been doing behind the scenes at L Corp. Hopefully, there are more opportunities for the two to share the screen together given that Supergirl is always stronger when they have a lot on their plate to tackle. Will they still remain close by the end of it? You have to hope so, but there are many obstacles coming they will need to confront.
