Supergirl, Charmed ratings dip; God Friended Me, NCIS: Los Angeles rise

Supergirl season 4 episode 3

The ratings for Sunday night prove yet again two different things: Ratings tend to fall for shows after a premiere, and beyond that, NFL lead-ins almost always pay off big.

Let’s kick things off here with the numbers for Supergirl and the Charmed reboot, which both got off to a solid start with a 0.5 rating. This time around, they slid back down to a 0.4 — it’s not the most surprising decline ever, but we’re not putting either show in the danger pile right now. As a matter of fact, Charmed held on to more of its premiere audience than we expected given just how polarizing it was leading up to the premiere.

Tonight, The CW will have a rather-ambitious premiere night courtesy of Legends of Tomorrow. Here’s to hoping it pays off.

The big winners, at least for now, are all of the Sunday shows airing on CBS. It kicked off with God Friended Me scoring its best rating since the premiere in a 1.3, and that trickled over to NCIS: Los Angeles (1.1) and then Madam Secretary (0.7). This does further justify the network giving God Friended Me a full-season order; even if it is not the highest-rated show on TV right now, it’s doing a good job of finding its audience and capitalizing on its lead-in to good use.

One of the last major questions that we have ratings-wise is whether or not ABC is going to stick with The Alec Baldwin Show, given that Sunday night’s new episode generated just a 0.4 rating in the demo. This is not working out well so far; that could change down the road depending on the guest, but it’s really not delivering all that much in terms of ratings might right now.
