Is Last Week Tonight with John Oliver new tonight? Looking ahead
Unfortunately, we have some news at the moment that is far from great, as we’re not going to have a chance to see another segment from Oliver for another seven days. As of right now, there is a new episode of Last Week Tonight listed for October 28, which means that there will be a chance to see him document more of what’s happening in the world leading up to the midterms.
We anticipate that all around the big November 6 election Oliver will continue to have extensive coverage. He tends to do his last show of the year in mid-November, and we feel like we’ll probably get at least two episodes after the midterms to get a better sense of the year at large. Last Week Tonight typically runs around 30 episodes a year; we know that there are constant demands asking for more than that, but this is just the way in which this series does business.
Why don’t we get some more episodes beyond this? As we explain in the new video below (be sure to subscribe for some other updates), this is mostly a function of the work that has to be done in order to ensure that these episodes are great. Last Week Tonight does not operate like your typical late-night show. Its pieces are incredibly well-researched and take a tremendous amount of time in order to perfect. Because of that, the writers like to spend their time in order to ensure that they are perfect before putting anything on the air. It’s obviously a very-different way of doing things, but it makes sense for this series … even if waiting does in fact suck given that there is always news for Oliver to break down on the show.
