The Good Doctor season 2 episode 5 video: Does Dr. Glassman really want help?

Richard Schiff

When The Good Doctor season 2 episode 5 airs on Monday, October 29, there are a few questions to ponder. Will Shaun and Lea really move in together? Will we get some more personal stories about the supporting characters? both of these are interesting, but the main focus for this article relates to one Dr. Aaron Glassman.

Does Dr. Glassman really want to help himself to get better from what is ailing him? In the promo below, Shaun makes it clear that Glassman is not doing his physical therapy as quickly as he should be, and that raises some serious questions about whether or not he’s committed to his treatment plan. As a doctor, he more so than anyone should understand just how important this is. Yet, he’s just not showing all that much when it comes to interest. He’s staying in his bed and fighting Shaun over everything.

Is there a larger reasoning for this? We have to think so, but given that he seems to be done having visions of his late daughter, there may be something else at play here that isn’t immediately surfacing. Basically, consider this a case where a little bit of additional digging may prove necessary. That’s fine with us as a card-carrying member (okay, it’s an imaginary card) of the “Give Richard Schiff great material club.” He knocks it out of the park every time.

Of course, beyond this there is also a case in this episode that will have some parallels to Dr. Glassman’s own — a mother doesn’t seem to be altogether concerned as to what’s happening to her. It’s up to the St. Bonaventure doctors to figure that out and then find a way to make her better.

The hardest part about this episode is just waiting for it, given that the series is off on Monday as ABC wants to give more sampling to their new series The Rookie.
