Doctor Who season 11 episode 2: ‘The Ghost Monument’ expectations

The wait for Doctor Who season 11 episode 2 is almost at an end! “The Ghost Monument” is going to be airing on the BBC come seven days’ time, and all signs point to this one being fun.

Below, you can see a brief preview for what is coming as The Doctor will be bringing some of her companions in Yaz, Ryan, and Graham to a new planet for the first time, one where they are going to be on the search for something. Visually, this episode looks quite stunning and different from anything that we’ve had a chance to see on the series to date. That seems to be a clear strategy of new showrunner Chris Chibnall, who wants to explore new horizons and give opportunities for new ideas.

Beyond just that, we imagine that there may be more humor and lighthearted action here. One of the larger critiques that we heard about episode 1 was that it was a little darker than expected. Given that this is a show for children, we think there will be plenty of space in here for some humor.

While the nature of “The Ghost Monument” is of course under wraps, the BBC has at least released the following synopsis:

Still reeling from their first encounter, can the Doctor and her new friends stay alive long enough in a hostile alien environment to solve the mystery of Desolation? And just who are Angstrom and Epzo?

If there is one thing that we absolutely are expecting from episode 2, it is the debut of the new opening title sequence. The only reason we don’t think it was in the premiere was to preserve the element of surprise when it comes to The Doctor’s new team (and maybe also time). It’s hard to imagine the series without the opening in the long-term, so we have to imagine it will be back around.
