‘Shiptober 2018: Outlander (Jamie & Claire) vs. Poldark (Ross & Demelza) – Round 2
It’s a chance to celebrate some of the greatest ‘ships that the TV has to offer, and we’ve got a fun tournament this year to go along with it. Over the course of this month, we’ll be running some ‘Shiptober polls while also discussing what makes some of these couples so great and also sharing some teases / expectations for upcoming episodes! This is a chance to celebrate and discuss great ‘ships while gauging their popularity among readers at the same time. Only one ‘ship will be crowned the victor at the very end!
Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! Only one ‘ship from round 2 will move onward, and we are keeping these polls open until Sunday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. The following day, the third round will officially begin. (All of the information needed can be found in the bracket image above.)
In this ‘Shiptober battle, we’re kicking off round 2 with a pair of shows in Outlander and Poldark — and ‘ships in Jamie/Claire and Ross/Demelza — that have been really popular on CarterMatt for some time. All signs point towards this being a fun showdown.
Jamie & Claire, Outlander (#1 seed) – This ‘ship got off to a great start in the first round doing battle against Garcia & Alvez of Criminal Minds, and there is no reason to think that anything will change moving into round 2. They’re an extremely popular pair of characters who love each other and it still feels moving into season 4 that their popularity is as high as ever. All indications from New York Comic-Con earlier this month indicate that these two are going to enter a new phase of their marriage, one where they can settle in and actually enjoy their surroundings a little bit more. It’s less about being on the run now, and more about starting a home and being able to establish themselves in a specific place. There’s something romantic and simplistic about this idea, though there certainly will be conflict.
Ross & Demelza, Poldark (#5 seed) – These two, like Jamie & Claire, have certainly went through their struggles in the past. Yet, moving forward through season 4 (for those of you who are watching in America on PBS), you will start to see these two characters do what they can in order to try and build up their relationship. Hugh Armitage is gone, Ross is committed to his wife, but there will be some problems. Expect to see Ross’ new political career to put a strain on the two of them given that they will spend long stretches of time apart. Yet, at the same time there are many a romantic moment coming that many longtime fans of the series will love. There are always peaks and valleys with this show, but the high points make it all worthwhile.
