Last Man Standing season 7 episode 3 is airing on Fox come Friday night, and with that, we’ve got the return of a familiar face in Joe!
In the video below (via TV Insider), you can see a sense of panic over at Outdoor Man over some recent shifts in the industry — especially with Jay Leno’s character. We suppose that one of the appeals of this show to the former Tonight Show host is that he gets to play someone who feels very different from himself — a guy who, judging from this alone, has a lot of cat sweaters and knows a surprising amount about baby-food flavors. He’s freaking out that Outdoor Man may have to lay people off, and the truth here is that it’s possible.

While this may not be the most positive thing for Mike to be going through in this episode, it does actually feel realistic for the times. Thanks in part to online merchants traditional brick-and-mortar stores are going the way of the dodo these days, with many companies still struggling to figure out precisely how to handle all of the different changes. It’s not the easiest thing in the world for them to handle and even in the outdoor / athletic store market, there are some hurdles that need to be jumped through.
Is it possible that Mike will figure out how to make this work? Certainly, but given what we know about him, it’s probably going to take some trial and error. We also just know that Last Man Standing is not meant to be the most depressing show on the planet so the idea of ending this episode with a number of workplace layoffs probably isn’t something that the writers are altogether interested in doing.
If you love Leno, know that this isn’t the only appearance from him this season — he will be back for some more moving forward.
