Station 19 episode 2 episode 2 review: The Grey’s Anatomy crossover continues

Station 19 episode 1

We were a little bit skeptical about the Station 19 crossover component on Thursday’s Grey’s Anatomymostly because it felt a little bit forced since it was mostly used for comedic relief.

Yet, in tonight’s Station 19 episode tonight, it all made a little more sense as the father, who did not tell his son at the hospital about his mother’s condition, had to deal with his disappearance. The firefighters ended up playing a role in tracking down Max and eventually finding him; meanwhile, the father had to wrestle with the possibility that what he didn’t say could end up causing him to lose his son.

This was a tough rescue for Andy and the rest of the team when they ended up finding Max, and it also proved tough for Captain Sullivan and Andy. She took a risk out in the field that he did not approve of and with that, it seems like they’ve got many a big issue that they’re going to have to work on in the weeks ahead. For now, though, they at least can celebrate a rescue and a job mostly well done.

Meanwhile, Dean wasn’t successful in his pursuit of Maggie; she told him that she had a boyfriend, but she made it clear to him that if she was ever available, she would let him know. Watching Andy be the wing-woman for him was actually rather fun. We do really like the idea of Maggie and Dean just because they are so different … but crossover romances are pretty difficult to pull off most of the time.

CarterMatt Verdict

Tonight’s Station 19 brought out a lot of tension when it comes to some of these characters, especially towards Andy after what happened in the field. Yet, we appreciate the fact that the series is exploring some new relationship. One other fun reveal was learning that Sullivan actually speaks Spanish, so he heard all of the underhanded comments that Andy was saying about him virtually all day.

Also, we hope that the series continues to move away from the Jack / Andy / Ryan love triangle, largely given the fact that the series doesn’t need it. It has enough compelling story elsewhere, including the fact that Andy is planning to move out.
