We begin today with The Resident season 2, which has been officially picked up now for a full-season order of 22 episodes. There are probably some people out there who assumed that this was the case already, but given that it had a shorter first season than most new shows, the shorter order was Fox hedging and making sure that it retained most of its viewership. Now that they’ve done that, they can be assured that this is a show that will continue to have a beating heart for some time. It also does improve its odds dramatically for a season 3. The Resident seems to be popular already with people all over the world, and that could go a long way in helping to determine its future. It probably helps that it has a couple of well-known stars at the center of it in Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp who are well known because of their other work.

As for some renewals…

Ozark – This was largely a no-brainer over at Netflix, as the Jason Bateman show is getting set now to come back for a third season. The streaming provider doesn’t release ratings information, but it has long had its fair share of critical buzz plus also awards attention. Basically, it was never in any danger.

Kidding – Meanwhile, the Showtime – Jim Carrey series is going to be coming back for a second season! While its live+same-day ratings were never tremendous, it was buoyed largely by the subscribers that it managed to bring in to the network. With this particular network, that really matters more than anything else.
