The Resident season 2 episode 3 review: Conrad, Nic’s devastating past
Over the course of this episode tonight, we found out for the first time that Nic, in the past, suffered a miscarriage. Conrad wanted to do everything that he could in order to help her, but it was a situation where he could only do so much. The best thing that he could really offer was some element of emotional support. Is someone like Conrad capable of that level of consistent, emotional coping? That’s something that we still have to figure out since he is so focused on the job.
Regardless of anything in the present, our hearts broke for Conrad and Nic when hearing about this. This one reveal teaches us so much more about their relationship and who they are, even more so than some of the other reveals that we had via flashback over the course of the night. This chronicled much of the relationship, and through this, it’s clear that there are some issues that need to be addressed.
In the present, Conrad and Nic had a storyline where they had to figure out what was causing a newlywed couple to get really sick — there were all sorts of theories but, as it turned out, pottery was the key. Meanwhile, Devon collaborated with Julian on a case involving one of his patients, and through that their friendship deepened. She does know that he is married, so we don’t foresee there being something deeper between the two … at least immediately. The Bollywood dancing, though? Well, that could lead to trouble.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bell continued to clash with Marshall, and to go along with that, he also fought with AJ over the methods in which he operates. AJ, as it turns out, doesn’t want to use anything for operations other than his hands. He didn’t want to put his trust in any machines, even if they could prove useful to him.
CarterMatt Verdict
The Resident season 2 episode 3 proved to be a poignant and also heartbreaking portrayal of a couple whose history is so much deeper than he imagined. Meanwhile, Dr. Bell got a chance to get know Conrad’s father, AJ fought back against hospital leadership and, in the end, these doctors are getting a little bit used to each other … though there is still some more work that needs to be done to make them into a cohesive unit.
The final scene with Conrad and Marshall is the one that may haunt him the most, as Marshall told his son that they had more in common than he may even be aware of at first.
