David Tennant approves of Doctor Who season 11 premiere

The Doctor Who season 11 officially has the stamp of approval from one of the best Doctors out there in David Tennant.

Are we surprised that Tennant loved the first episode, featuring Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor? Hardly. He spoke kindly about her and the series leading up to the premiere, and beyond just that, he’s always been a friend to the franchise, appearing in the 50th anniversary special and a number of conventions to go along with it.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly (via their Morning Live show) after watching the premiere, here is what the actor had to say on the subject of the series:

“Very late last night, I managed to catch up with it … It’s very exciting. It’s very exciting as a fan, you know, as someone who grew up watching Doctor Who, it’s very exciting whenever there’s a kind of rebirth of the show, it’s just an exciting moment anyway. But because Jodie’s a friend and because Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch creator) who now runs the show is a friend, it was exciting on so many levels. But five minutes in, I was just watching it as a fan again, and I’d forgotten that I knew them, and that they were my mates. I was just going, ‘Oh, this is fun, this is exciting!’”

The more praise we hear about the premiere, and the more excited that we get on the subject of the long-term future here. We remain fairly confident that there is going to be a season 12 and beyond for the series, especially when you look to see just how strongly the show premiered in the ratings over on BBC One. It will take some time for the North American ratings to creep in, but with the approval of the Tenth Doctor and many Whovians around the globe, it feels fair to say that the new season is off to a more-than-solid start.
