‘Shiptober 2018: Lucifer (Lucifer & Chloe) vs. The Resident (Conrad & Nic)
It’s a chance to celebrate some of the greatest ‘ships that the TV has to offer, and we’ve got a fun tournament this year to go along with it. Over the course of this month, we’ll be running some ‘Shiptober polls while also discussing what makes some of these couples so great and also sharing some teases / expectations for upcoming episodes! This is a chance to celebrate and discuss great ‘ships while gauging their popularity among readers at the same time. Only one ‘ship will be crowned the victor at the very end!

In this particular showdown, we’ve got a longtime favorite of CarterMatt readers facing off against a duo that are still fairly new to the landscape. This showdown features Lucifer & Chloe of Lucifer facing off against Conrad & Nic of The Resident.
Lucifer & Chloe, Lucifer (#1 seed) – These two are riding high off of a victory in CarterMatt’s Crime Dynamic Duos tournament from this summer, but note the difference: That was more about their partnership. This is more about Deckerstar’s romantic potential and the fun that comes from ‘shipping them. There is a lot to love about the two as a romantic duo, whether it be their chemistry, their lightheartedness, but also the amount of care that they do have for each other when the chips are down. There were many an example of this at the end of season 3, but Lucifer, moving forward, does need to find additional ways to show his affection towards her through explicit honesty. That includes putting all of his cards on the table; sure, he told her he was the devil before the end of last season, but did he really expect her to understand that literally?
Conrad & Nic, The Resident (#8 seed) – With CoNic, there are many things to like despite their presence on the show being fairly limited still (there’s been just over a full season of them so far). They do have a number of electric scenes together, but as a prospective couple and with the two together now. Beyond that, what makes Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp’s characters so exciting is that they are almost akin to a pair of medical revolutionaries. They fight for patients, against regulation, and really do whatever they can to make Chastain a better place. They are stronger together, but it does still feel like they have many issues to work through … issues that could be one of the reasons why their relationship didn’t work out the last time they were together. Expect the series to explore that this season.
