Is Linda Hunt leaving NCIS: Los Angeles as Hetty? Why you shouldn’t worry

does Hetty survive

It seems like a little bit of a recurring question at this point, but let’s get to it again: Is Linda Hunt leaving NCIS: Los Angeles as Hetty?

There is a reason for this question being so frequently asked — she hasn’t been appearing all that much on the CBS series as of late. She was not really in the premiere other than a brief recording, and she has not been featured in episode 2 (at least at the time of this writing). The story explains this as her being off in DC, where she and Mosley are basically getting their future examined after the mission to Mexico. That was controversial and beyond that, it also cost NCIS the life of a valuable agent in Harley Hidoko.

As for Linda Hunt herself, this absence may allow her to have a little more time to recover from a car accident this summer. She is not leaving the show, and never had any intention of doing so. She made it clear even after the accident that she was looking forward to being back on set.

Not having Hunt around for at least a stretch of time shouldn’t be all that much of a shock to longtime NCIS: Los Angeles viewers in the first place, given that there was also a sizable stretch of last season in which the character did not appear, either. This may just be the pattern for this character at this point, and there are certainly some others within the franchise that have a similar sort of habit of coming in and out throughout the season (see David McCallum over on NCIS proper).

The only major reason to worry about Hetty at the moment is NCIS itself suddenly deciding that her rogue brand of leadership is not worth the trouble anymore, but we have a hard time thinking that this is something that they will decide on. While she may at times be trouble and a little bit unpredictable, at the same time she also is very good at what she does. She’s not the sort of person who is easy to replace.
