While it seems as though Absentia season 2 filming just started a day ago, it’s been going for a while now! The proof here comes courtesy of series star Stana Katic, who confirmed on Twitter recently that the first block of episodes is officially done. With that, we’ve also got a celebratory post on Twitter for good measure.
So what exactly is a filming block? For those who are not entirely aware, a block is typically a chunk of a season (sometimes defined by a specific number of episodes) that is used in order to arrange production schedules for the cast and crew. For example, Outlander did a number of blocks for season 4, with the majority of them representing two different episodes.

The biggest takeaway from this announcement is mostly that Absentia season 2 is coming along swimmingly in Bulgaria, and there don’t seem to be any interruptions or delays. The show is likely going to be filming for at least much of the remainder of this year; there is no confirmed public wrap date for the show, but these episodes are likely going to air at some point in 2019. This is an intense, dramatic story based on characters, and really the best way that we can describe what lies ahead is this: Emily Byrne is not out of the woods yet. She’s gone through a tremendous amount of trauma, but she is just not the sort of person who will just sit down and spend the rest of her life reading the newspaper and drinking tea. She’s going to get back out there in the field in order to mix things up — and potentially understand both herself and her psyche further.
