Last Man Standing season 7 episode 2: Boss looks at emotional episode

Last Man StandingLast Man Standing season 7 episode 2 is coming onto Fox on Friday night and it seems as though the expectations for it now are a little bit different. After all, we’re looking at a show now that is a certified hit on Fox — it delivered a huge Friday rating in a 1.8 in the 18-49 demographic, and it’s the sort of thing we believe will cause the network to start taking a longer look at the show’s future sooner rather than later.

For now, though, we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves since there’s another new episode coming on Friday! Early speculation suggests that this is going to be a big one for the show, as you will see the return of Robert Forster as Bud, even though the character died in the time in which the series was away. This episode (preview more here) will offer Mike a chance for closure, and to give him a chance to speak to him in a way that he didn’t before his death.

Ultimately, for this upcoming episode, you’re going to get something that executive producer Kevin Abbott believes is actually a little more normal of an episode than the premiere. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in a new interview, the showrunner moves away from the idea that we are gearing up for an “atypical” hour of TV:

Next week’s episode is a great episode. Do I think its atypical? No. We see ourselves as a family show not a political show. We’re a family show with a conservative character at the center. It fairly closely follows what we generally do which is to tell a story about the relationships on our show with heart and a lot of funny. So I think it’s a good example of what we typically do. The first show was actually a bit more atypical for us. Because our central character is a political beast [the election] felt like something that needed to be commented on.

One of the other big takeaways from the premiere is that there seem to be a ton of divided reactions over the new version of Mandy, played now by Molly McCook. We think that she will grow on people more over time, given that she did have some funny moments in the premiere. It’s ultimately just a tough position she is coming into given that she’s replacing someone in Molly Ephraim who was there for years. (For those wondering, Ephraim seems to have gotten rid of her Twitter following the premiere.)
