This Is Us season 3 episode 2 video: Coping with death & many hardships
Back in season 2, we got at least somewhat of a sense as to the short-term impact Jack’s death had on the Big Three. As we move forward, we are seeing some of the long-term effects and how so many of the Pearsons’ demons stem from this tragedy. Take, for example, some of Kevin’s difficulties with addiction. He is going to be struggling in the past, and unfortunately, Kate and Randall are dealing with their own issues that may cause them to be unable to properly help him.
As with all things related to This Is Us, we imagine that there will be some hope that comes out of sorrow, even if it exists within a different timeline. Some of the problems the Big Three are going to be facing coming up as adults are ones that we will figure out more over time. Take, for example, seeing Randall dive more into politics — and, to go along with that, also getting a chance to see Kevin eventually begin a pretty epic journey for himself that was teased in the finale.
Then, there is also the story of Toby and the battle that he is going to be going through with depression. He has been there for Kate often during many of her struggles, but we are now at a point in which she is going to have to work to be there for him. Like her own demons, this is something that does not just go away in the immediate future. It can take a rather long time in order to properly tackle something like this.
