Leading into the Doctor Who season 11 premiere next weekend, we’ve got a new sneak peek of what you can expect.
What does this preview show you? Well, let’s just say that it features the Doctor making a clear revelation: She’s a woman. Or, she at least remembers that she is a woman after previously realizing it earlier. After all, just thirty minutes before this she was apparently a “white-haired Scotsman.” (It was hard not to laugh after hearing this.)
This entire clip is a great reminder that despite whatever anxiety many people may have had about the new Doctor entering season 11, this is evidence that once again, the producers clearly knew what they were doing this whole time. Jodie Whittaker is fantastic and also fun in what little we see from her here; she feels a little more like Matt Smith’s Doctor than Peter Capaldi or David Tennant’s, but we’re also only looking at just around 45 seconds of footage. The longer this season goes on, the more we will probably get an accurate assessment on all of this. We just like the tone and the spirit of adventure that is here — also, this gives you a quick glimpse of new characters Yaz and Ryan, who appear to both be major players as we move into the season. With four main characters, it feels like Doctor Who season 11 is going to more of an ensemble feel than ever before.
If you have already seen this clip, the simple reason for that may be that this was the clip that was leaked earlier this year — one that we stayed away from at the time just because spoiling stuff like this in advance is really no fun.
