The premiere episode of Hawaii Five-0 season 9 is just around the corner, and there’s a very good chance that this one will freak you out.

The new sneak peek below comes courtesy of TVLine, and it features the end result of Steve McGarrett putting himself through a sensory-deprivation tank. In order to try and solve a murder, McGarrett allows himself to be captured and tormented by some of the people he thinks are responsible for what happened. Judging from the sneak peek below, one of the people responsible for running this operation is … Wo Fat?

Bringing this character back at this point is absolutely a nice touch, given that you are talking about an iconic series villain who in one way or another, is always going to be a part of Steve. You don’t forget about the sort of stuff that he went through with him, and there could be something about these tanks that are causing these memories to re-enter his brain. Hawaii Five-0 is not the sort of show to dabble in the supernatural, and with that in mind it’s hard to imagine that Wo Fat has just magically rose from the grave to cause all sorts of unspeakable carnage. There’s something else at play here, but regardless his presence adds another terrifying element to what is already a terrifying story as a whole. It’s another way to get people talking.

This part of the storyline for “Cocoon” is effectively a remake of a classic Hawaii Five-0 episode that first aired a good fifty years ago, and it’s going to balanced with some other characters dealing with the cliffhanger at the end of this past season. To be specific, be ready for Tani Rey to try and question whether or not she should give some of the evidence that she has regarding Adam as a potential killer.
