Sir Patrick StewartWhile Sir Patrick Stewart may not be filming his upcoming Star Trek return as Jean-Luc Picard just yet, work is officially underway!

The photo below offers up your first look at Stewart alongside Kirsten Beyer, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, Diandra Pendleton-Thompson, and James Duff working behind the scenes in the writers room. This is where the magic happens, and this is where everything is really going to begin for this new series.

Other than Stewart’s presence, there isn’t really all that much else known about the new show at the moment. Our current sentiment is that this show is going to be coming out at some point either in late 2019 or early 2020, and will feature Sir Patrick Stewart exploring the universe in a new, thought-provoking way. We hope that some other former Star Trek: The Next Generation cast members are going to join him, just as we also hope that there are many lovely Easter eggs sprinkled in for the hardcore fans to enjoy.

We do think that this is the perfect time for Picard’s return, given that he is one of the most-iconic television characters of the past half-century. Not only that, but he is someone who stood for steadfast leadership, acceptance, and curiosity. He is a man many other TV characters should aspire to be and one that was as well-written as any we’ve come across. We just hope that this manages to live up to some of the expectations that are out there, especially since so many of them are currently through the roof.
