Is Salvation new tonight? The wait for season 3 renewal news

Salvation season 2Is Salvation new tonight on CBS? Given the end of last week’s episode, it’s fair to say that plenty of people wish that it was.

Unfortunately, at the moment it’s clear that you’re going to be waiting for a while. Last week marked the season 2 finale, and we’re now left to wonder for a really long time, possibly forever, as to what was really going on with that asteroid-that-wasn’t-really-an-asteroid. Whatever it was it didn’t end up actually striking Earth and instead it hovered over it. Does that mean that these are aliens aboard a UFO, or something at least meant to monitor the planet? We consider both of these to be possibilities for what the season 3 story could be … provided we get it.

As we explain in the video below (be sure to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more), we’re not entirely confident on the basis of the ratings themselves. The numbers for season 2 were fairly weak in live viewing, and the first season was considered a bubble show in its own right. Yet, there is a small glimmer of hope here in that Salvation does have a good streaming deal — plus, it benefits CBS to still have some summer programming! It just remains to be seen if this will remain a part of it.

Regardless of what happens when it comes to the future of Salvation, it does at least feel like we’re going to have a decision one way or another before long. The writers confirmed on Twitter that they are expecting an answer within a few weeks. More than likely, we imagine that by the time Halloween rolls around we could have a pretty clear indicator of it’s future. The longer the wait, the more we’ll assume that CBS is at least seriously considering a renewal for the show. We’re personally always going to root for a scripted genre drama, just because they encourage imagination — something that is really valuable in a cynical world.
