Greenleaf renewed for season 4 at OWN, early on in season 3 run
In a statement confirming the news today, the network’s president Erik Logan had the following to say:
“Greenleaf is a cornerstone of our scripted programming slate and pulls in millions of viewers each week with its unique storylines and powerful characters … We are very proud of this show, the incredible cast, producers and crew, and can’t wait for more twists and turns from the Greenleaf family in season four.”
This renewal is certainly understandable when you look at some of the recent ratings. To date, the series is averaging a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic — while this is down from the season 2 average for the show, it is actually posting more live viewers this season on average (at least so far) in 1.45 million.
The renewal is a sign that OWN has a great deal of confidence in the series moving forward and they are 100% committed to making sure that this show continues to stay strong in the weeks to come. Now, viewers can check out Greenleaf for the remainder of the season without having to spend time worrying about whether or not it is going to be coming back for more. That is a good thing, given that there is so much drama happening on the series itself that the story should be the focus, not worrying about whether or not there will be more.
At the moment, we do think that Greenleaf is one of those stories with the potential to last several more seasons … but it’s really going to be up to whatever the powers-that-be decide to do with it as we move along.
