Outlander notes: The latest via Sam Heughan, Richard Rankin

Outlander

Welcome to another edition of CarterMatt’s Outlander notes! There are a number of different stories floating out there today, though admittedly we are in the midst of a fairly-quiet time when it comes to the series. Clearly, Starz is satisfied with all of the photos and the recent trailer they released for season 4 and they don’t feel the need to do a whole lot else … which we totally understand. They have given us quite a bit!

For now, let’s start off with the latest news about Sam Heughan, who is currently filming Bloodshot in South Africa, and also that James Bond talk. It’s a hot topic everyone loves to talk about, and he does have the endorsement now of series author Diana Gabaldon for the gig. Speaking in a new interview via the Scotsman, Gabaldon had the following to say about his candidacy — which really isn’t confirmed just the fact that people like to ask Sam a lot of questions about it:

“I have seen that Sam is being tipped for James Bond and I think it would be great … Sam would do a fine job of it. There is always a lot of talk every time James Bond changes so it’s anybody’s guess.”

The operative words there are “anybody’s guess” since we think it’s way too early to say one way or another who is going to get the gig. Sam would be a good choice, but it’s hard to pinpoint anyone without knowing who the producers are seriously looking at.

Gabaldon also added that Sam could do Outlander and James Bond if the schedule worked out — it’d be difficult since Bond movies are long shoots, but in theory we could see it happening if he wanted to keep both gigs going.

Richard Rankin’s throwback – How about this for a fun throwback? Rankin recently posted an image from Glasgow University on his Twitter, which just happens to also be where he filmed some very-familiar Outlander scenes with Sophie Skelton. The university was used as a double for Harvard — really the closest replication that could be found in Scotland.

If you missed it, you are going to have a chance to see Richard on another show coming up next year in Trust Me, as he is going to film new episodes for that show during the rest of his hiatus. Season 5 of Outlander will begin filming in February and the writers are already hard at work.
