Designated Survivor season 3 spoilers: The new characters stopping by
According to a new report coming in right now via TVLine, these are some of the people who the ABC series is looking to bring on board:
A campaign manager – The show is looking for a woman to play this ambitious, highly-intelligent character, someone who recognizes that there is a great deal of value in supporting an Independent incumbent for President. If the campaign succeeds, after all, she becomes a veritable political rock star and has a career that is set in stone for many more years. However, she has to also be very much aware as to the difficulties of this sort of campaign, especially in an era where so many people are used to jumping behind one single party.
A Chief of Staff – This character is a gay, black man who is responsible for helping the digital arm of the West Wing.
A geneticist – She’s described as “quirky” (aren’t almost all science / tech experts that way on TV?) and she’s also involved in the Hannah Wells story for this season.

We imagine that there are also going to be more people that populate President Kirkman’s orbit this season as Designated Survivor continues to try its best to shift into a new direction. After all, there is another new showrunner on board in Neal Baer and there are also going to be potentially some other changes with it being on a streaming platform. While we hardly expect the show to make a dramatic shift in tone (they need to be able to appeal to folks who liked it on ABC), we also do imagine that they are going to try and take advantage of the new platform that they have been given.
