BBC’s Bodyguard will air internationally on Netflix, including in United States

Bodyguard episode 2

For those of you asking when Bodyguard will be available in America (and there are understandably many of you out there) CarterMatt has an answer!

Today, ITV Studios confirmed (via Deadline) that the Richard Madden-led series, which airs on BBC One in the United Kingdom, will air internationally mostly on Netflix — including here in the United States. Some of the notable exceptions include the UK and Ireland, and in China where Netflix is not available. The premiere date is set for October 24. While that may feel like a long time, it’s really not that bad given that there is still one episode to air overseas. Plus, viewers are going to get a chance to watch the entire first season at once, which we feel is something they will certainly embrace. Bodyguard is an exceptionally-written, highly-intense series that features the former Game of Thrones star in an exciting and completely-different role to what you’ve seen him do before.

In the series Madden plays the character of David Budd, a former military man now employed as a Personal Protection Officer (PPO) responsible for protecting extremely important people. His assignment for season 1 is Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes, The Durrells), a controversial politician known for her extreme views. Things get complicated quickly as a conspiracy begins to unravel, one that David may be the only one capable of understanding and unraveling.

In a statement confirming the Netflix deal, Maria Kyriacou, President, International for ITV Studios had the following to say:

Bodyguard has gripped the [UK] with its twists and turns. It’s a perfect example of a show produced locally which has huge global appeal. Through our partnership with Netflix, we can’t wait for audiences around the world to enjoy the show as much as audiences here in the UK.”

Bodyguard has become one of the biggest new series in years in Great Britain, where it has posted extremely-high numbers and also has trended worldwide on Twitter through most of its episodes.
