Veep season 7 will run just seven episodes

Let’s just start off this story with this — we’re thrilled that we’re getting a Veep season 7 above all else. This is one of the greatest comedies of the past few decades, and we know that after everything Julia Louis-Dreyfus went through with battling breast cancer, it’s a thrill to have her back on TV. It doesn’t matter if it’s for five episodes, seven episodes, or fifteen – we will take whatever we can get.

In the end, seven seems to be the number that everyone has settled on for the final season of the show (via TVLine), so this is what you should look out for in the new year. This makes season 7 the shortest one of any Veep season to date, but we know from watching this show over the years that they have a real knack for packing a great deal of content into a reasonably short period of time.

At the end of season 6, Selina Meyer made the bold and rather-dubious decision that she wanted to run for President again, even though it clearly had not worked out for her beforehand. There’s clearly some thing inside her that is motivating her to take a run a this again. Given that many of her former staffers need jobs (who else would hire some of these people?), they’ll probably be along for whatever sort of weird ride that she takes them on.

The challenge that obviously exists for Veep at the moment is trying to find a way to out-crazy all of the real-world political headlines that are going on now. No matter your party affiliation, the one thing that everyone can probably agree on is that we’re seeing far more extreme headlines and stories then we have in decades. We wonder with a show like Veep if that makes them up their game, or try to take a different approach rather than just competing with 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
