Is Last Week Tonight with John Oliver new tonight? What we’re missing

Tonight, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver certainly had opportunities aplenty to riff on the news of the week. After all, just look at everything that is unfolding! The Administration is still in chaos, there are the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, and there is still news breaking almost by the day. This is the climate that we exist in now given that we feel like there are headlines breaking the very day of the show at this point. Suffice it to say, this was a crazy week.

Alas, these opportunities were squandered, as there was no new episode on the air. (For more on how the show works, watch the video below and subscribe for more.) The show took the week off, but it will be back for more in one week’s time. Given that the show tends to cycle in batches of new episodes / repeats, we are somewhat surprised that there was no installment this time around.

Yet, we’re sure that there is going to be PLENTY that Oliver has to discuss when the show returns to the air. Remember that it was only weeks ago that the host had on Anita Hill to discuss misconduct and harassment, and that seems even more appropriate given the accusations of assault that have been made against Brett Kavanaugh from when he was in high school. You have to think that this is going to be a talking point eventually. To go along with that, you of course have social-media reactions, the midterms, and some other segments that Oliver picks that we’re not actually thinking about all of the time. That’s a part of the beauty of this show. Sometimes, you do get some legitimate surprises that are exciting to see over the course of an hour.
