Take Two season 2: If renewed, here’s how ABC can make it stronger
We’re only a couple of days removed from the finale, and with that, there is no firm news regarding a Take Two season 2. That’s sad, but we’re not exactly surprised, either. ABC has a good bit of time presumably to decide on the future of the show and we imagine that they’ll take it. They need to assess the ratings with DVR figures added in, and we really are hoping that this is a show that will build over time.
It’s not often that we really say this, but we do think that for ABC, the renewal is all about one simple thing: Whether or not they believe in the show. If they do, they’ll renew it and give us some more episodes and expect that the ratings will be better. If they don’t have confidence, they’ll cancel it.
If ABC does bring it back, there are three different things we believe they can do in order to push it in the right direction.
1. A different timeslot – This one to us a given, mostly because Thursdays at 10:00 p.m. Eastern is terrible in the summer. It’s almost like airing on a Friday, and to go along with that, there was no lead-in that had much of an impact. Take Two was also subject to preemptions at times for the NFL and had to finish off the season against the regular season.
If we were ABC, we’d cancel The Proposal (there’s no staying value there) and move Take Two after their Bachelorette / Bachelor in Paradise block. While the two audiences may not be identical, at least the Bachelor franchise has a large viewership and it gives Take Two more of a chance.
2. More promotion – Could you premiere Take Two season 2 during the May sweeps, potentially after the finale of Dancing with the Stars or another big show? This would be helpful to get the series an audience almost from the jump rather than it getting totally lost in the summer.
3. More notable guest stars – We’d certainly love for Castle people turning up, but if not that, why not bring on board some of Rachel Bilson’s co-stars from The OC or Hart of Dixie? It definitely feels like there’s a lot of potential there. The same goes for Eddie Cibrian and the people he’s worked with across his career — which basically spawns everything from Rosewood to Third Watch.
