America’s Got Talent finalist spotlight: Does Zurcaroh have a real chance?

Zurcaroh

Leading up to the America’s Got Talent finale, Zurcaroh is one of the most interesting acts on paper. Large groups don’t tend to have a great shot of winning this series, but at the same time, they are one of the best group acts we’ve ever seen. They know how to utilize stunts, flips, and performance art in a way that few other acts do, and they’ve found a way to innovate every single time that we’ve seen them. They could probably go to Las Vegas tomorrow and have a fairly good career for themselves.

The biggest thing that they should lean into going into the finale on Tuesday is their uniqueness. There are no enormous group acts left other than them, so they should really play up their size and scope to show that they can do things that no other act can. We’d throw in more tricks and danger than you’re going to see anywhere else — also, come up with a new theme that separates yourself from everything else that you’ve done.

Beyond all of that, Zurcaroh does also need to take advantage of that pre-taped footage to really tell a personal story and connect to some voters who are out there. This is really the sort of thing that is actually going to get them the most votes. Viewers need to care about them, and that can be harder when you are a big act like this.

What are their winner odds?

We wouldn’t call them the favorite to win right now, but we’ve labeled them a contender for weeks and we’re not backing down from that. One thing that we don’t think hurts them as much as the internet likes to claim is their past Got Talent experience. If we’re going to start penalizing acts who have been on TV before, then we have to penalize Shin Lim and Courtney Hadwin — two of the most-popular acts this season.

There are only two things that we could see hurting Zurcaroh — the bias that tends to happen towards groups on this show (they don’t ever tend to win) and also that Duo Transcend fills a somewhat similar space as an acrobatic, athletic act.
