9-1-1 season 2 episode 3 spoilers: Dealing with earthquake fallout

While 9-1-1 may have a strong case-of-the-week component to it, this is also a show that plans to take its time dealing with the fallout of other stories — and that includes the earthquake.

You’ve probably seen the quake referenced in a number of different teasers for the new season already, and what we know now is that this quake is going to be a part of the upcoming September 24 episode of the season — a.k.a. the second you’re going to see. This incident is going to put characters into peril and certainly test them in a way that they haven’t been before. This episode will show you some danger, but it will also give you a good sense as to what is happening in the personal lives of some of these characters — including Athena and Bobby, who are going to have to balance the personal affection the two have for each other and also some of what they are going to be dealing with while out in the field.

The first responders continue to deal with the fallout of a massive earthquake and its deadly aftershocks. Athena tries to keep the peace as Bobby and team continue to rescue victims from a collapsing high-rise hotel, both under the rubble and high above the ground. Maddie’s first day on the job involves helping a pregnant couple deliver their baby safely in the all-new “Help Is Not Coming” episode of 9-1-1 airing Monday, Oct. 1 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. What we’re going to be watching for and thinking about more than anything else are some of the personal stories, mostly because these are the things that will continue to make 9-1-1 stand out from the average first-responder show. Watching Maddie find her way in the call center is going to be interesting, especially since she is probably going to be a nice entry point for a lot of people who haven’t seen the show before or understand her profession.
