MacGyver season 3 premiere: Five things to expect
Before diving into the five different things that you can expect to see in the premiere, let’s start with some reflection on where we were before this. In the finale, Mac learned that his father was actually the person in charge of the Phoenix Foundation — and with that, he suddenly didn’t feel all that interested in being there. He didn’t like that his dad (fitting for his nickname of Oversight) spent the entirety of his life watching out for him.
Suffice it to say, the premiere will start off with Mac in a very different place than we’re used to seeing him — but whether or not it stays that way remains to be seen. MacGyver doing his own thing – After leaving the Phoenix Foundation, Mac is going to find himself a home halfway around the world — basically, somewhere that he thinks Oversight won’t be able to locate him or manipulate him in any way.
Leanna will still be around – Reign Edwards is going to have a huge presence at least in the early part of the season, which should be interesting when it comes to her romantic life with Bozer.
Murdoc will be returning – For anyone curious, David Dastmalchian will be coming back for at least one appearance as the show’s signature villain in the premiere episode.
…So will Tate Donovan – Rest assured, Oversight isn’t going to disappear completely. As for whether or not he and Mac can get along, that’s a totally different story.
Jack will be in danger – The series had to figure out a way to bring MacGyver back from his exile, so what better way to do that other than to introduce a villain who wants vengeance on George Eads’ character? Mac and Jack have so much history that it’s hard to imagine he would ever want to leave him behind.
