Lethal Weapon season 3 has installed a new co-lead in the form of Seann William Scott’s character of Wesley Cole. Now, we also know another notable character from his past.
According to a new report coming in via Deadline, Mykelti Williamson (who recently played Denny Woods on Chicago PD) is going to be taking on a recurring role this season of Tom Barnes, Cole’s CIA recruiter. Cole is a character who has an extensive law-enforcement background, but he is doing what he can at this point in order to settle in and try to carve a new life for himself. This includes being closer to his family, including his ex played by Maggie Lawson.

As for what Tom Barnes is going to bring to the series, we certainly do have some questions all about that. For example, will he prove himself to be an ally to Cole in his new position, or somewhat more of a thorn in his side? There are many fun things that we have to wonder about here and, over the course of the next few weeks, we’re hoping to get some more answers. The premiere of Lethal Weapon is just under two weeks away, and with that in mind we’re going to see whether or not this experiment really ends up working out for Fox. Bringing on board a new cast member like Scott, especially in the midst of so many headlines about the departing Clayne Crawford, is a big role of the dice. Sometimes Twitter reaction doesn’t necessarily equate the overall sentiment of the viewing public, but sometimes it does. The premiere is going to be the real test of what happens.
