First Law & Order: SVU season 20 promo honors the show’s history

NBC has just revealed the first Law & Order: SVU season 20 promo, and there seems to be one primary goal with this one more so than anything else: Honoring the series’ history and overall legacy.

In this promo, you get a chance to really cycle through the entirety of the show’s run, whether it be the early era with Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay to where we are right now. You see many of the show’s notable guest stars over the years, but then also a case at the start of the series that will keep you guessing. This is a show that is starting off big with a two-hour premiere on Thursday, September 27, which is more than likely an attempt by NBC to get viewers used to it airing on a different night. We of course have some concerns about the show being there and with a lead-in that is very different, but we have a lot of faith in this brand and feel that fans will follow this show to any time slot and on any night it lands in.

Hopefully, SVU sticks around on the air for a long time still — we know that it only needs to be on the air for one more year to break the record for longest-running primetime drama series. We certainly think that everyone working on the show will want to reach that milestone.

For the time being, enjoy the promo below and remind yourself of what is a pretty tremendous amount of television history. There’s never been a series quite like SVU and we have a hard time thinking that there is ever going to be one quite like it again … but we don’t have to worry about it concluding just yet.
