Outlander season 4: The most surprising moment from the trailer

Outlander

We can probably agree (or at least many of us can) that the Outlander season 4 trailer was a thing of beauty. After all, you had new settings, characters, romance, and epic drama placed within the span of just a couple of minutes.

Yet, we think that the biggest surprise of the whole trailer is something that happened so quickly that you could have easily missed it. (Warning: Book spoilers lie ahead.)

The moment takes place at around a minute and twenty-nine seconds into the trailer, where you can see a brief glimpse of Brianna (Sophie Skelton) wearing clothes not from her era! So why are we calling this a surprise? It’s not so much because this is some sort of reveal that is new to any book reader; it’s the mere fact that this was included in the first place. Brianna traveling back to the past, after Roger ends up uncovering some very important information about her parents, is one of the most pivotal moments of the book Drums of Autumn on which season 4 is based. We expected that there would be more Roger and Brianna in the trailer than any other bit of promotional material to date; yet, we didn’t think that Starz would actually tease her heading back to the past so early.

Yet, what is rather brilliant about this moment is that if you are a show-only viewer, this moment goes by so quickly that there’s a chance that you may not even notice it. Even if you do, it may still be hard to extrapolate what it means. This moment feels mostly like an inclusion for diehard fans who wanted a brief tease of this storyline and the journey that lies ahead.

Outlander season 4 will premiere on Starz come Sunday, November 4.
