2018 Emmys: Should Game of Thrones, The Crown, This Is Us win Drama Series?

Emmys 2018

The 2018 Primetime Emmys are airing on NBC come Monday, September 17, and we’re starting to take a look ahead at the categories! We want to do our best here to not only analyze the field, but also figure out just what shows will and should emerge as the champion.

For this particular article, we’re putting the focus on Outstanding Drama Series! This is a good field this year with a number of great candidates that include everything from modern-day stories to fantasy to tear-jerking tales about family.

At the end of this article, there is a poll for who you think should take home the trophy to go along with our own analysis!

Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! We’ll announce all reader predictions at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time on September 17, leading up to the start of the awards.

The nominees

The Americans

The Crown

Game of Thrones

The Handmaid’s Tale

Stranger Things

This Is Us

Westworld

Who should win

This is a tough group to read since there are so many interesting storylines here — especially if you are someone who follows the Emmys for the narrative. Seeing The Americans win for its final season, to us, is the most satisfying out of any of the nominees this year, especially when you consider that Game of Thrones and Westworld were a little more polarizing critically over the past year.

If we’re going for the show we actually thought was best overall this past year, we’re going for This Is Us, on the basis of the acting, the writing, and the pure emotion it made us feel.

Who will win

It’s going to be The Handmaid’s Tale that takes it home, and the odds of it winning are extremely high. We don’t want to call this race a slam-dunk for it, but it definitely does feel close to that. Stranger Things has fallen off the awards-show map as of late, and we’re not taking Westworld too serious this year. As for every other category, however, we’re thinking that they at least have a chance.

I can’t see the poll; what do I do? – If you are on mobile, scroll to the bottom of the page and click to view the non-AMP version. If that does not work, give the poll a moment to load! On some mobile browsers, it may take a moment.

How can I vote more than once? – If you are having trouble casting multiple votes, try switching your browser, your device, or visiting the page under private browsing or incognito mode. There should be many handy guides online explaining how to do so if interested.
