Poldark season 5 spotlight: What could lie ahead for Drake Carne?
One of the things that we certainly have learned about this character already is that he’s the sort of person who doesn’t give up. He did everything that he could to be with Morwenna until he completely lost hope, and the moment that it felt like there was a possibility of something being there again, he rushed back towards her. In some ways, season 4 ended with a huge glimmer of hope for the two characters — they are now married, after all, and they can start to plan something together.
Yet, the thing that Drake needs to have is patience — he has to be cognizant of the fact that Morwenna has went through something deeply traumatic and she’s not going to be all that emotionally available. She loves him, but she may be completely riddled with insecurity. The best thing that he can do for her is give her all of the time and space that she needs in order to feel better. We also hope that we see him do things to help reassure her and make her comfortable — bring her back to some of her favorite places. Of course, a reunion for the two with Geoffrey Charles would also be ideal given the amount of fun they all used to have together.
Beyond just Morwenna, though, we hope to see Drake get a little bit more respect around the community, especially since to date, we’ve mostly just seen him get mixed up in various brawls while George sets out to ruin his life. Whether it be with his religion or with his work as a blacksmith, we want to see what Drake looks like with a slightly-better status. Also, it’d be nice to see him more as a brother to Demelza and a friend to Ross. There are so many hats that Drake can wear in season 5, and we don’t think he and Morwenna getting married has to be the end of his story.
