How NCIS season 16 will build Gibbs – Sloane relationship further
What makes her different? We think that some of it stems from her intelligence, her perspective, and the fact that she seems to challenge Gibbs. She is not just the same agent that we’ve seen on a number of occasions in the past and she’s coming on board in a different role. We hope that she does continue to break down some of Gibbs’ walls and offers up a different viewpoint than we’ve seen on the show in the past. The more that we get a chance to see this, the happier that we’re going to be.

While executive producers Steven D. Binder and Frank Cardea were not so keen as to give too many explicit details on Gibbs and Sloane’s future to Variety, they did have the following to say — which does make for a pretty-great tease for what could be coming up:
“In season 16, we plan to move Gibbs (Mark Harmon) outside his comfort zone and build on his budding relationship with Sloane (Maria Bello). He’s always been a risk-taker but this season, we’re going to amp it to “11” — which is going to place Gibbs in increasing conflict with the NCIS Director as well as his team.”
It’s good in some ways to see Gibbs shifting back to this role, mostly because as of late he’s felt more like the super-conservative one on the team with all of his rules and with the rebel Nick Torres on the team. The more conflict that we get (organic conflict, anyway), the better. We just hope that along the way, there are still opportunities to see the team solve cases and do some of what they do best.
