Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn leaving Project Runway for Amazon

Project Runway -

The Project Runway as we’ve come to know it over the years is now ending — Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are saying goodbye.

Today, it was officially announced that the two longtime series hosts, who have received plenty of critical acclaim for their roles over the years, are stepping aside. With that, they are developing a series over at Amazon that seems to have a more commercial component; with that, it seems that there is some potential for consumers to get their hands on product they see on the show, which feels a little bit similar to Fashion Star, a series that briefly aired over on NBC.

In a statement, here is what Klum had to say on the subject:

“After 16 incredible seasons, I am saying ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ to Project Runway, a show that I was honored to host and help create … I am incredibly proud of the show, and it will always have a special place in my heart. I am so appreciative of the dedicated fans, and most of all, I am grateful that we could shine a light on creativity and help launch so many talented designers’ careers. I’m most excited that my journey with my dear friend and colleague, Tim Gunn, is far from over.”

Meanwhile, Gunn added the following:

“I am grateful to Project Runway for putting me on a path I never, in my wildest dreams, thought my career would take me. I am so proud to have been a part of the groundbreaking process that showcased talented young designers as never before. Most importantly, I am indebted to our incredible fans, they are the heart and soul of what we do, and continue to inspire us to raise the bar in this arena. I’m excited for them to see what’s next, as I partner with Amazon and Heidi Klum on our next great ‘fashion’ adventure.”

Project Runway did boost the careers of a number of designers whose names are now well-known within the red carpet community. Yet, we imagine that after many years doing the same thing, Klum and Gunn decided that it’s time for a change. (Heidi is also a judge on America’s Got Talent, where she offers some fun feedback … but isn’t the biggest champion to comedy acts.)
