Madam Secretary season 5 will take time before possible Presidential campaign
Yet, we do know that unless the series starts to walk things back, we’re going to be seeing Elizabeth start to navigate the political arena eventually. It’s not something that she originally strove to do, but at the same time she also realizes that it’s now a necessity. She thinks this is the best way to ensure that there is a safer world.
Speaking to TVLine in a new interview, executive producers Barbara Hall and Lori McCreary do note that the series is going to take their time in order to resolve what happens with the Presidential run. They aren’t going to hurry things along, which is good since it does appear as though the producers have a number of things that they want to get through before making it to this point — including bringing on board Hillary Clinton, Colin Powell, and Madeleine Albright for prominent guest spots.
When the show does eventually get to this point, Hall notes that the series is going to do what it can to show “the difference between being a diplomat and a politician … She’s never run for anything. She was appointed to this job.” Will Elizabeth need to change her style? That’s certainly one thing you have to wonder about, since she’s now having to speak directly to voters in a way that is very different than anything that she’s done before.
Oh, and there’s one other challenge, as well: Potentially having to say goodbye to the Secretary of State position, which is far from an easy pill to swallow.
