Downton Abbey movie bringing back Matthew Goode for a small role
If you’ve been wanting to see Matthew Goode on the upcoming Downton Abbey movie, you’re in luck. With that being said, it’s a small role.
Speaking in a new interview with the Radio Times, the actor (who has appeared in a number of other projects, including The Crown, since playing Henry Talbot) confirmed that he will be a part of the movie. Yet, he had the following to say at the subject:
“I’m just popping in at the end, which is a nice way to do it.”
So does this mean anything in particular when it comes to the relationship between Henry and Lady Mary? We wouldn’t assume anything at the moment, largely due to the fact that the specific story for the movie is not clear. It’s certainly possible that Henry’s story just leaves him separate from Mary for most of the movie before they reconvene at the end.
Ultimately, though, having Goode in some shape or form at all is enough to have us happy, largely due to the fact that you want this to be as big of a celebration of the original show as possible. Downton Abbey was a phenomenon, and we do have a feeling that for many of these performers, this is inevitably going to be their claim to fame for some time.
There aren’t too many details out there as to when the movie is going to premiere, but the general consensus seems to be that you’re going to have a chance to see it at some point in 2019. Personally, we’d rather have a limited series or something in that ilk, but we do also understand on some level what Downton Abbey is doing. If they think that this will be profitable, and it almost certainly will, why wouldn’t you release it in that form?
