The Son season 2 is still airing … but where is it?

The Son season 2 premiere date

There are many mysteries out there when it comes to cable TV, such as the status of Good Behavior, why Ruth Wilson really left The Affair, and also why the Deadpool series with Donald Glover behind the scenes didn’t ultimately happen.

Yet, the status of The Son season 2 has to be up there on the list somewhere. The good news at the moment, though, is this: The Son season 2 is happening. Production has happened for the show already and with that, AMC’s not going to cancel something that they’ve already filmed. (Production on the Pierce Brosnan series wrapped months ago.) The cast has talked sporadically about it coming, though there’s never been all that clear of a timeline for it.

So why the long wait? At the moment, the easy assumption is that the network is trying to come up with the right time to launch it and there may have been fears that the show would’ve struggled in the ratings if it was on Saturday nights in the summer. We do think it’s possible that the show gets a timeslot early this fall, but we almost feel like they would’ve announced a premiere date by now if this was the case.

One likely scenario when it comes to The Son is that it premieres come November, and it airs throughout the holiday season. Another is that AMC wait to launch it until after The Walking Dead goes on hiatus. We wouldn’t be shocked if there was a lineup of it eventually alongside Into the Badlands, another series on the network viewings are demanding. We at least know that AMC is billing the show for 2019.

Rest assured of one thing — once we do have a little bit more insight on The Son season 2 and what lies ahead, we’re going to have it for you here. Stay tuned…
