Jersey Shore Family Vacation Part 2 ratings show MTV series’ continued dominance

Jersey Shore Family Vacation

It almost goes without saying that Jersey Shore Family Vacation Part 2 was going to be a hit for MTV, mostly because this is continuing an established brand with popular characters. We still remember a time in which Jersey Shore proper, during its peak, was drawing ratings that were dwarfing a number of primetime series, especially in the key 18-49 demographic.

It is fair to say now that we’re in a different climate and environment than we once were with the show. After all, the ratings are not what they once were and that’s clear. Nonetheless, Thursday night’s new episode generated in total a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, even with the week prior. That’s still a great performance, especially against NFL preseason, and it makes you wonder if MTV is already considering a way in which to do a part 3 in the future. We do think that the demand is there on some level. (Remember that these are just live ratings; the majority of viewers watch after the fact, which is a little different than the original show’s run.)

Yet, is there enough that they can do here when it comes to the story? That is something that we do have to wonder about right now based on what we’re seeing right now. Basically there are only two stories going on right now: Ronnie’s troubles with Jen and JWoww’s heartbreak over the Mother’s Day message that most of her cast members didn’t participate in. The second story is the one that is probably going to be forgotten about soon; the first, however, is emotionally draining and really sad. Ronnie’s life just seems to be perpetually a mess. Could things change with Angelina Pivarnick’s return for episode 4? It’s possible, but we’re also not guaranteeing anything.

Basically, the one thing that could slow down Jersey Shore Family Vacation at this point is the narrative involving some of the cast members themselves.
