Why Take Two DVR ratings matter now more than ever

Based on what we’re seeing in the final numbers for last night, one thing feels abundantly clear: Take Two may needs a strong DVR performance more than ever.

While it’s true that the Rachel Bilson – Eddie Cibrian series posted its lowest numbers of the season last night in a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic for Thursday’s episode, those numbers are somewhat deceptive due to NFL preemptions. A number of big ABC affiliates all over the country didn’t air the show live, and with that, the ratings potential was damaged severely. This is really something that has been hurting the show severely throughout the past month or so, and it really makes us wish even more that ABC had aired Take Two after The Bachelorette / Bachelor in Paradise (rather than the dreadful The Proposal) in order to capitalize more on that lead-in and not have the same preemption problem.

Basically, what all of these preemptions mean is that DVR viewing is more important — and we really hope that many people across a number of markets last night have a chance to check it out via either this or via the internet. As long as you’re watching the show through ABC or some other officially-authorized channel, that helps. Take Two has established itself as a fun, immersive procedural, and it is one that gets better with each passing week. Fingers crossed that this does eventually lead to a renewal down the line.

There are two more episodes of Take Two this season, and while there’s going to be even more NFL competition out there, we still hope people get a chance to check out the series live.
