Is a Bodyguard season 2 already in consideration at BBC One?

Bodyguard episode 2

At the moment, we imagine that BBC One has to be at the very least considering a Bodyguard season 2 — and for good reason!

Through two episodes, it is very much clear that the network has an enormous hit in the Richard Madden-led series. It has drawn more than six million viewers per episode in live+same-day, and while it has been criticized here and there for some inaccuracies, the general critical takeaway is that the series is super-intense, well-acted, and almost feels more like a movie than your typical television show. We’ve been lucky enough to watch both of the first two episodes and to date, our opinion on the series is very much positive. It is bringing to us a smart, intriguing narrative with great characters and subject matter that feels original. It’s not just akin to every other series that we have seen in this sort of genre over the past few years.

Thanks to creator Jed Mercurio’s own Twitter page, it does appear as though he is already thinking about some ideas for a potential second season — and we do think that this will eventually become a reality. This is the most-watched new drama series on British television this year and it is with this in mind that we do think that the odds are high that the BBC won’t wait too long on this. There is no reason in order to shy away from a renewal. We know that the network can be rather cautious, but why wait when you have a big hit?

The most intriguing part of the Bodyguard success story, at least to us, is that it has managed to find this much success for itself without even getting an official US partner just yet — though we do think that this will be coming at some point soon.
