The Flash season 5: Barry Allen’s new costume highlighted in new promo

The Flash

While we know that the latest preview released by The CW highlights all of the different superhero shows coming to the network this fall, admittedly, our attention really just gets put on one thing: The new costume for The Flash.

While The CW did release the image above of the new suit earlier this month, this is the first time that we’ve seen it in action! It’s only briefly a part of the clip and, by and large, we do like it. It is probably going to take some time to get used to seeing Barry without the chin-strap, at the same time it’s got to be more comfortable on Grant Gustin.

We do wonder why a show like The Flash does routinely change the costume for the title character, and there are certainly many theories that we have. For starters, you can argue that the frequent costume changes are just a function of different advancements in Cisco’s costume design. Or, maybe the characters (or the actors) come up with a list of changes they would like to make over time. When you are in these costumes for several hours a day, every day, more than likely there are some changes that you would like to make with comfort in mind. From a merchandising standpoint, it also obviously makes some sense for The CW and studio Warner Bros. do come up with new costumes here and there.

Yet, with all of this said some costumes do receive many more augmentations than others over the years. For example, Supergirl has yet to see much of a costume makeover at all, whereas other characters like the Green Arrow or White Canary have gone through some different iterations over time.

Regardless of the costume, remember that The Flash season 5 premieres on The CW this October.
